I would like to use my first post in this forum by starting up a debate.

How many of you gamblers or none-gamblers think it’s ethical and (or) moral to bet on the War?

There are many books out there that are taking action on it… what is your opinion?

Just Curious!

I'm totally against it - it feeds a need that should not be indulged. I could care less if people want to bet on it, I consider it immoral to bet on essentially human lives and deaths.

Jazz, yet somehow you find it agreeable that you support a government that will use lives to further their own interests?

Radio: I will support a war my country is fighting in the interests of national security when I believe that it is justified. I do not bet on the deaths of people. If you wish to try to pervert 'defense of country' to gambling with people's lives, that's your game, not mine.

You just changed the topic - again - the point I made as to why I can be for one and against the other has been made and is valid.

NO change in topic took place. You commented on national security and I responded. Your quest to maintain national security through war with iraq is a weak case for aggressive action in that country. Next you argue liberation or destruction of WMD as being the cause of invasion?

radio, I should have spelled out what the change was - you shifted it to a disagreement about whether national security was at stake from my statement that I thought it was and based my response on that - 2 different topics, one is explaining how I can arrive at 2 different views, and the other is examining whether my belief is justified.

adios on this topic - the guy wants to know what people think about it - why not post your opinion instead of carrying the same argument into every topic? Plenty of others for a good confrontation.

Btw - welcome to the Woodshed, Silent Major

Jazz is right; you are changing the subject here. Although, I see your point on questioning the “national security” excuse that the US has been using to risk so many human lives for their own political and economic reasons.

But for that we should start another post. I am sure a lot of people here would have a lot to say.

In the mean time, perhaps you can give me your opinion…

Jazz,

and I agree with you; it’s understandable that “some type of gamblers” will feel the need for gambling on just about anything. But gambling on peoples lives and suffering is just sick and I could go on with my opinions, but I am yet to see what other people think here to elaborate it a little bit more.

S&M (sorry, it was irresistible and typing out your name is too much work - lol), believe it or not I considered the likelihood you were female but erred on the probability you were not. Thank God I didn't bet a dime on that!

I find no problem with betting on the war at all. A bets a bet. I wouldn't bet on something like "US soliders to get killed over 100 -110" and root for it, but betting on the length or outcome of the war is something I'd do is value showed itself.
